The Castle and the Cloister: A Letter from Laura E. Weymouth

The Castle and the Cloister: A Letter from Laura E. Weymouth

Dear Fellowship Members,

THE CASTLE & THE CLOISTER is a book that has been more than thirteen years in the making. I began it in the trenches of very new motherhood, cultivated a writing career while always tinkering with this book in the background, and raised that first baby (and two more!) into courageous, independent young women as I continued to explore the world contained within these pages. THE CASTLE & THE CLOISTER truly carried me through my mid-twenties and thirties, imbuing me with so much strength along the way.

It is the story of three very different people—a fiercely passionate wet nurse, a beleaguered pacifist queen, and a grudge-bearing blind priest—who are all striving to alter the course of their nation in a time of war. At its heart, THE CASTLE & THE CLOISTER is an exploration of the various loves that move us and the lengths we’re willing to go to in pursuit of a better world. I hope that you find both answers and questions as you read, as well as a spark of the joy and determination and hope that I experienced throughout the writing process.

Sending you love and light,

~Laura
