We recently had the joy of hosting David Wragg as he signed copies of The Company of the Wolf, the sequel to The Hunters in the Tales of the Plains trilogy! Before signing our numbered edition, we got the answers to some of our burning questions about the trilogy, what's next for our psuedo mother-daughter duo Ree and Javani, and a bit about a new favourite character.
What is the Tales of the Plains Trilogy about ?
It is about new lives, starting again, and trying to make a new life for yourself. That is both growing up and growing old in a sense. It is about two characters Ree and Javani, that have a sort of parent, child, relationship and both of them attempting to define themselves in relation to the other. Of course it is about lots of other things as well.
Where does The Company of the Wolf Take Ree and Javani after multiple assassination attempts in The Hunters?
This book takes them West, after the events of The Hunters they are seeking, once again, a new life. Javani has been itching to go to a place called Aranstan, which she understands is a land of plenty and paradise. That requires them to cross the mountains, dragging Ree with her, off they go and needless to say, their route finding is a little short of ideal. So they get a little bit lost...
Who is your favourite character?
That changes book to book, obviously I have an enormous collective soft spot for both Ree and Javani. In book two I am going to say a chap called Captain Inaï Manatas. Not just because he has a diaeresis in his first name, which has made for hilarious typing exploits. He's very wordy and he is sort of noble but also he is kind of a middle aged deadbeat and that is something I think I can identify with.
